March-April 2003 December's Unemployment SnapshotIndiana's unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) has remained at 4.7 for many months now and continues to be significantly lower than the national rate each month. Within Indiana, 37 counties experienced rates of unemployment higher than the state, particularly Orange (8.8), Fulton (8.4), Miami (8.4) and Fayette (8.0). Orange County's long history of high unemployment might change if the opportunity for gambling in that county passes the legislature this session.
